Hinoyama Park
Hinoyama Park is a park on the summit of Mt. Hinoyama in Shimonoseki City; it forms part of the Setonaikai National Park. At a height of 268 meters, Hinoyama Park has some of the finest scenery in Yamaguchi Prefecture, with a panoramic view of the Kanmon Straits, the Seto Inland Sea, and as far as the Sea of Japan. The view from Mt. Hinoyama at night has been designated as one of Japan’s “Night View Heritage Sites.” The observation deck on the summit has a restaurant and shops. In spring, Hinoyama Park is renowned for its beautiful cherry blossom and azaleas; an annual sketching competition is held every year in early May when the azaleas are in full bloom. The observation deck is currently closed for renovation work, and is not expected to reopen until March 2019 at the earliest.
