  Start the day at the summit of Mt. Senkoji, easily accessible by the Senkoji Ropeway. The spectacular view from the ropeway is not to be missed. To reach the ropeway from Onomichi Station, walk down Route 2 for about 10 to 15 minutes.

  At the top of the ropeway is Senkoji Park. From there, walk down the path known as Bungaku no Komichi, or “the lane of literature,” to the ancient Buddhist temple of Senkoji.   The path leading from Onomichi Art Museum to the Maneki-neko Museum is known as Neko no Hosomichi, or “Cat Alley.” It’s a popular location for getting to know Onomichi’s many painted stone cats. The area is dotted with little stores that have taken over empty houses, some of them resembling snug hideouts. Enjoy your walk and, just for a moment, feel as free as a cat.
