- Located in Okumino the Takasu Snow Park is the largest ski resort in western Japan. The top of the ski slope is 1550 meters above sea level and the longest slope is 4800 meters long. There are 12 slopes in total. The half pipe has also been designed to be enjoyable for both novices and more experienced skiers and snowboarders. There is also a ski and snowboard school. Inside there are changing rooms places to eat and drink shops and an area for kids to play free of charge. At the summit cafe you can take a break from the slopes while enjoying the spectacular scenery.

- Dynaland was the first ski slope in western Japan to light up its slopes and also hold firework festivals. There are a total of 20 slopes for beginners intermediate and advanced skiers. The ski resort has a neon park for nighttime skiing and ‘chibikko plaza’ where young children can enjoy playing in the snow. The ski school also offers skiing and snowboarding lessons for children. Facilities include changing rooms restaurants shops and equipment rental. There is also a daycare facility on request.

- On a fine day from the top of the slope you can see views of the Northern Alps (Hida Mountains) from Mt. Ontake to Mt. Yari. Everyone including beginners can ski on the 5000 meter trail from the summit. Pro snowboarder Ryuji Takai created the Chikei Park. Skiers and snowboarders can also enjoy the DC Park created in collaboration with DC. Not only adults can have fun on these slopes but children also can play safely in the kid’s park the largest in western Japan. On site you’ll also find a Murasaki Sports shop and gift shops selling Okumino and Meiho souvenirs as well as a foot bath.

- Hida Honoki Daira Winter Resort’s slopes range from 1,250 meters to 1,550 meters in elevation and offer top-rate powder snow. The large resort has 15 courses catering to everyone from beginners to the most advanced level skiers and holds a variety of competitions and events. The popular ski and snowboard school caters to small groups and is an easily accessible way to boost your skills.

- Whitepia Takasu has a fabulous view of Mt. Hakusan, one of Japan’s top three peaks. It also has a freestyle park and mogul course, in addition to trails for everyone from beginners to advanced level skiers. Direct bus tours are available from Osaka, Kyoto and Nagoya, making the resort a good option for skiing beginners. The Center House right in front of the slope accepts overnight guests. Reservations by phone begin October first.

- At WINGHILLS Shirotori Resort, you’ll whisk to the top of the mountain in their gondola to enjoy a variety of slopes for skiers of all levels. There is also a summer slope where you can ski and snowboard in the green season. 1,000 meters long and with a maximum width of over 30 meters, artificial “snow mats” are laid out to produce the world’s largest summertime ski run with a reputation for conditions extremely close to the real thing.

- Starting with the 400 meter wide main trail Washigatake Ski and Snowboard Resort has 13 trails in total. The ski season begins here in November with the largest ice crusher in Japan paving the way. Various kinds of food can be enjoyed in the restaurant in the center house. The berry tart made by a specialist pastry chef is their most popular cake. The natural Washigatake hot spring accessed directly from the slopes has outdoor baths and saunas the perfect treatment for tired bodies.

- This ski resort on the southeast slope of Mt. Nagarehayama at an elevation 1,422 meters is 30 minutes by car from Takayama Interchange. The view from the top of the mountain is outstanding, and when the conditions are right, you may encounter snow bound trees or the phenomenon called “unkai,” a sea of clouds. Their special day plans include limitless lift passes, all-you-can-eat curry, and free entry to Nagareha Onsen. Their summit restaurant called Grand Chariot has a sweeping view of the Northern Japan Alps.

- The popular, family oriented Chausuyama Kogen Ski Resort has five runs for kids and grownups, including a sledding slope and a family slope you can get to the top of by either on foot or by taking the moving walkway. Their school instructs everyone from four-year-old kids to seniors, and you can get take Japanese badge tests (technical tests) ranking from the fifth level (lowest) to the first level (highest). The resort has a great view, and while the elevation is only 1,358 meters, the wind is strong, so be sure your clothing is warm enough.
