- Oita Kusu-gun Kokonoemachi Matsugi 3501-2
- At this tourist farm, a 15-minute drive from the Kokonoe Interchange as well as the Kusu Interchange on the Oita Expressway, visitors can have fun picking Japanese pears in a field with a wonderful view of the Kusu Basin. The dedicated Japanese pear farm has been in operation for over 60 years. Visitors can pick Hosui, Akizuki, Niitaka, and other varieties which grow large and sweet thanks to the temperature differences created by the farm's high altitude (450 meters above sea level) and underground spring water from Mt. Daiso. Japanese pear picking is offered when the fruit is in season from late August to mid-October. The farm also offers apple picking from late October. Famous sightseeing destinations such as Ryumon Falls, the Kokonoe Yume Suspension Bridge, and Yaba Gorge are located nearby.

Taking safety and health as its motto, the farm grows blueberries using organic fertilizer and natural, manual, non-chemical pest repellent methods such as insect nets. Blueberry picking season is from mid-June to late August. The farm also sells lightly sweet blueberry jam made by hand using the blueberries harvested on the farm without the use of preservatives, colorings, or other additives.

Oita Areas
A trip to Oita is tantamount to a long soak in the Beppu baths. The mountainous, coastal prefecture of Oita is renowned for having more onsen than any other prefecture in Japan, most of which lie in the city of Beppu on the west coast of Kyushu, recognizable by its pungent sulphuric aroma and the clouds of steam that puff up across the hillside. Away from the Beppu hot springs await mountains, waterfalls, and temples, so don’t hesitate to explore Oita a little further.
