- Waterfall on the Nagao Mata River, a tributary of the Kobara River. It is said the falls got their name because at one time there were Japanese bead trees (sendan) beside them. The waterfall plunging from the 70-meter-high rock cliff edge is a powerful site to behold. You can view it from the observatory on the road, or see its roughly eight-meter in diameter basin up close once you cross the suspension bridge. It takes about 15 minutes on a walkway to the waterfall lookout. It's also nice that the area around the waterfall is maintained for hiking.

Kumamoto Areas
Kumamoto lies in the center of Kyushu, a calm prefecture perfect for easy strolls around the historic center and lazy evenings in the natural hot springs at Kurokawa Onsen. For a slightly more strenuous activity, head to Mount Aso, whose surrounding hills offer hiking opportunities aplenty with views over the active volcano.
