This observation platform, a 30-minute drive from Fukue Port, is located on the north side of Fukue Island not far from Hamada Beach. The observation platform is also located on the site where Kishiku Castle, built in 1383 by the eighth head of the Goto clan Uku Satoro, stood. From 216 meters above sea level, visitors can see not only the surrounding townscape and the Hassaku Plateau, but also all the way to the islands of Naru Island and Nakadori Island. Visitors are drawn by the majestic, sprawling scenery, which resembles a veritable diorama. A trail leading away from the observation platform to the top of the mountain also connects to the No. 1 Shirodake Observatory, and from there visitors can get a 360-degree, panoramic view of the area.

Facing the sea, the park is situated in a spectacularly scenic location from which visitors can take in sea, sky, and islands in the distance. The sunsets here are particularly acclaimed. There are also flower fields on the grounds which bloom with rapeseed flowers, cosmos, and other flowering plants, and which bustle with tourists come to view them. This park is also the last place in Japan where Japanese missions to tang China would anchor, and there is a monument in the park commemorating this fact.

Nagasaki Areas

around-area-map

This hidden corner of the country is rural Japan at its best, where underground activity is to thank for active volcanoes and bubbling natural hot springs along the Shimabara Peninsula as well as the crystal clear waters of the Goto Islands off the west coast. Less well known than Hiroshima’s Peace Memorial Park, Nagasaki commemorates its own past at the Nagasaki Peace Park, which sits alongside the charming Meganebashi stone bridge and a mix of religious buildings with beautiful architecture, such as the Zen Buddhist Sofukuji Temple, the Confucian Shrine, and the Oura Christian Church.
