"This rural settlement is famous for having more scarecrows then people. It became known as ""kakashi no sato"" (scarecrow village) for the more than 180 scarecrows that have been built to prevent crop damage by wild animals. Many tourists visit the area to see the scarecrows, which have been placed in a variety of settings including a closed elementary school."
