    Wakayama Higashimuro-gun Kushimotocho Kashino 1033
The museum is located on the eastern edge of Kii Oshima Island. 62 years before the arrival of Perry's black ships, in 1791 (Kansei 3), two American merchant ships, the Lady Washington and the Grace, landed on Oshima. The museum exhibits dioramas, photographs, and models of the ships that illustrate this event.

Surprisingly, it was very interesting. Everything is in English too. Very much worth the visit. The BEST view in the whole area is from behind that museum. It does not seems like many people go...

You’ll find this Turkish memorial building in Kushimoto Town of Higashimuro County, Wakayama Prefecture. The “Ertuğrul Fırkateyni,” a wooden battle cruiser from the Ottoman Empire bearing a special envoy, sank in 1890 in the Kumano Sea, resulting in 587 deaths. Thanks to the generous rescue efforts of the locals, Japan and Turkey have enjoyed warm relations ever since. The building contains materials related to the sunken vessel as well as models, mementos from the sailors, and more. You can see the crash site from the observation deck on the second floor.

This art museum is a 10-minute walk from Kushimoto Station, on the grounds of Muryoji Temple. Modern art and local historical documents are stored and displayed alongside temple treasures. Although said to be the smallest art museum in Japan their collection includes a number of early-modern works by artists such as Maruyama Okyo and his student Nagasawa Rosetsu as well as Kano Tanyu and Hakuin. 55 of their room partition paintings including Maruyama Okyo’s “Hajougunsenzu” and Nagasawa Rosetsu’s “Ryukozu” have been designated Important Cultural Properties of Japan.

This memorial is dedicated to victims of the frigate Ertugrul that was shipwrecked in 1890. It's located near the Kashinozaki Lighthouse on Kii Oshima Island at the southern tip of the Kii Peninsula. The Turkish Memorial Hall that holds a memorial service every five years is also at the site. It recalls the sinking of the Ottoman Empire's frigate Ertugrul in the ocean to the east of Kashinozaki Cape that took over 500 lives. The residents of Oshima Village (in modern Kushimoto-cho) helped the survivors and provided them with care. As the former Ottoman Empire was based in modern Turkey, the incident became a cornerstone of Japanese-Turkish friendship.
