    Shiga Otsu-shi Minami-komatsu 1020
A five-minute walk from JR Omi-Maiko Station, and a five-minute drive from the Omi-Maiko Ramp. This fruit farm can be reached by following the two lane road to the east of Otsu Municipal Komatsu Elementary School as it curves around west. The farm has received Shiga Prefecture Environmental Conservation Agricultural Produce certification. Here visitors can enjoy strawberry picking on a same day first-come, first-served basis in most years from early May, as well as reservation-only sweet potato digging and peanut digging in autumn. The farm has no set days or hours for these events, making it possible to come and do them anytime when in season. The farm also sells strawberry jam, cookies, and other foods; the farm's strawberry-stuffed daifuku rice cakes are only available on Saturdays and Sundays.

Visitors to Shiga prefecture are almost always hopping east across the prefectural border from Kyoto, and they are almost certainly Lake Biwa-bound. Covering an area of 670 square kilometers, Lake Biwa makes up the bulk of Shiga prefecture, with beautiful lakeside paths that offer myriad walking and cycling opportunities, connecting a string of museums, shrines, and picturesque views that finally lead you to Hikone Castle on the eastern side of the lake.
