Consisting of some 500 dawn redwoods growing along a 2.4 kilometer stretch of road in front of the Makino Pic-land fruits farm, the Avenue of Dawn Redwoods Festival is held here during the fall foliage season from late November to early December.

The facility has a mountain stream fishing area which draws its waters from the nearby river, a casual fishing pond, and a lure fishing pond which is the only one in the Kansai area where visitors can fish for Japanese huchen. In the facility’s barbecue house, you can grill and each your catch together with various meats and vegetables. Meanwhile, the adjoining restaurant serves dishes made with char, bear meat, and dear meat.

    A Shinto shrine situated along the Nishi-Oumi Highway in Ukawa, Takashima City. Dedicated to Sarutahiko-no-mikoto, the shrine is said to grant worshippers long life. Because of the shrine’s large torii gate standing in the waters of Lake Biwa, the shrine is also known as the “Itsukushima of Omi.”

    The arch in the water is certainly the landmark that steals the show. Most visitors here take photos at and with the arch which leaves the actual shrine quieter.

    A roadside station situated along the Takashima bypass in Aoyagi Adogawa-cho, Takashima City. The station sells fresh, local agricultural products; grilled mackerel sushi; river fish preserved by boiling them in soy sauce tsukudani style; processed foods such as Western-style sweets made with ado berries, a local specialty product; and handicrafts. The station is also adjoined by two restaurants. Adogawa Kitchen serves sweets, noodles, donburi rice bowls, and set meals like the “Takashima Hakko Teishoku” fermented food meal made with local vegetables and rice. The Daikichi Grill Bokujo serves meat dishes with a focus on Omi beef.

    This is Japan’s largest lake with a general surface area of approximately 670 square kilometers. Water from nearly 460 class A rivers flows into the lake, and of those, 118 rivers flow directly into Lake Biwa. The origin of the lake is estimated to be approximately four million years ago, and although the lake changed location and appeared and disappeared with the changing eras, the current Lake Biwa was shaped about 430,000 years ago. Together with Lake Baikal and the Caspian Sea, Lake Biwa is one of the world’s 20 oldest lakes, and every year approximately 50,000 waterfowl migrate to the lake, which is why its wetlands are registered under the Ramsar Convention.

A reef formed by erosion, the area is also known as one of the Eight Views of Lake Biwa, traditional scenic views of the lake, its title being “Dawn Fog—Kaizu Osaki Peninsula Reef.” In addition, the area is a renowned destination for cherry blossoms in the spring; selected for inclusion in Japan’s Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots, some 600 Yoshino cherries 50 years or older grow in a four-kilometer-long row here.

    A roadside station situated along the Nishi-Oumi Road in Kaizu Makino-cho, Takashima City. The station sells naturally grown shiitake mushrooms, a Makino specialty product, and other local agricultural products; mackerel sushi; bento box lunches; and snacks and other processed foods. The station’s restaurant serves homemade, stone-milled soba noodles made with local buckwheat, as well as set meals. There’s also an adjoining bread bakery which uses locally grown rice flour.

    国道161号線を福井方面から南下すると、初めて琵琶湖を望むことのできる峠にあります。地元でとれた新鮮野菜、特産品、米粉パン、打ちたて本格そばが自慢です。特産品では原木シイタケがお勧めでした。

    A great day out For FREE.. even if the weather turns bad there are tings to do inside. traditional park rides and some new style stuff. some rides / entertainment require a small fee about 300...

The station sells local dishes like mackerel sushi and fermented narezushi and tochimochi chestnut rice cakes, as well as naturally grown shiitake mushrooms and other local agricultural and specialty products. The station is adjoined by an all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant serving dishes made with fresh, local ingredients and a morning market is held at the station every Sunday.

    商品の補充はほとんどないので、寂しい売り場になっています。野菜類はまあ普通、さほど買い得感はありません。狙い目は栃餅や鯖素麺など地域の食品、あとは時季の山菜ですかね。鯖寿司は専門店で買った方がよいと思います。

    5月5日6日と2連泊で行ってきました、5歳女児9歳男児42歳パパ38歳ママ72歳じぃじ68歳じぃじ65歳ばぁばと総勢7人で10人棟を借りて1日目は樫田のイズミヤで和牛を買い込みBBQ、2日目は小浜まで出かけてさざえ、ほたて、岩ガキ、ボタン海老を買い込み海鮮BBQ毎年GWの恒例行事となりました-来年も予約が取れると嬉しいんだけど。

    An eel and river fish specialty store and restaurant located in 2 Chome Sumiyoshi Imazu-cho, Takashima City. The restaurant part of the facility serves hitsumabushi, eel rice bowls, unaju rice boxes, eel steamed seiromushi style, eel rice bowl and soba noodle sets, and kaiseki course cuisine and sashimi set meals made with river fish. The adjoining shop sells products like eel chazuke—plain-grilled eel stewed with Japanese pepper.

    I purchased a lunch box with grilled eel, and had a quick bite in a cold platform. As the eel melted on the tongue, I wished I had had enough time to sit back and enjoy eel in Nishimoto Restaurant.

    一月過來是打算滑雪⛷️,過來雖然沒有下雨,但是雲層厚厚的,天色非常差,那就只是觀光,我們由琵琶湖邊酒店開車過來,位置好容易找,停車場收費1仟日元都算合理,我們不打算滑雪,所以只買覽車來回票,而沒有買全票,上山車程八分鐘就到山頂,去程時霧好大,只看到車外白白濛濛,到達後向下望是一片雲海,好特別的景觀,在七度不冷的天氣下,只開了一條滑道,滑雪的人也不多,我們在周圍走走,影下相,大約逗留了四十五分鐘左右...

Visitors to Shiga prefecture are almost always hopping east across the prefectural border from Kyoto, and they are almost certainly Lake Biwa-bound. Covering an area of 670 square kilometers, Lake Biwa makes up the bulk of Shiga prefecture, with beautiful lakeside paths that offer myriad walking and cycling opportunities, connecting a string of museums, shrines, and picturesque views that finally lead you to Hikone Castle on the eastern side of the lake.
