A Shinto shrine located on Take Island in Takeshima-cho, Gamagori City. According to legend, the temple was founded by the poet Fujiwara no Shunzei in 1181. Dedicated to the goddess Ichikishima-hime no Mikoto, along with Enoshima Shrine and others, the shrine is considered one of Japan's seven great Benten shrines.

A Shinto shrine located in Nishigakiuchi Ichinomiya-cho. Dedicated to the god Onamuchi no Mikoto, the shrine's history date's back over 1,300 years. The god is enshrined in both the Satomiya shrine on the grounds and an Okumiya rear shrine on Mt Hongu in Hongushita Kaminagayama-cho. The shrine's annual festival is held from May 3 to 5 and during this time events are held such as sacred horseback archery displays.

This shrine honors the Shinto deity Susanoo no mikoto. With connections to the god Gozu Tenno, it's been favored by warriors since the days of old. The shrine is nationally famous on account of July's Toyohashi Gion Festival. The celebration features a variety of events, including participants setting off hand held temochi-hanabi. These bamboo cylinders packed with gun powder held aloft erupt in a fountain of spark and flame. There's also an enormous fireworks display, a portable shrine event where parishioners transfer its Shinto god from one place to another, Sasa odori dance performances with participants in scarlet costumes, and the Yoritomo Parade which re-enacts a procession of the warlord Minamoto no Yoritomo.

Located a 50-minute drive from Nagayama Station and a two-hour hike from Kami-Nagayama Trailhead, Toga Jinja Shrine is an inner shrine near the summit. On a clear day, Mt. Fuji is visible from the yohaisho worshipping place on the grounds. The deity of the shrine is Onamuchi-no-Mikoto, and since he can be revered anywhere in the Higashi Mikawa Plain, visitors demonstrate their extreme reverence for this god by coming here not only by car but also on foot. They can see the sacred cedar tree more than 1000 years old and Kunimi Rock, and in the spring, they can enjoy cherry and lotus blossoms. The shrine's annual festival is February 6th, and the fall festival is held on the last Sunday in October.

Aichi Pref. Toyokawashi Akasakachou Miyaji 1120
Miyajiten Jinja Shrine is about a five-minute drive from the Otowa-Gamagori Interchange. The worship hall is located at the foot of Mt. Miyaji, and the main building is near the summit. It is said that the eight century prince Yamato Takeru granted the Otowa-cho area to his third son Takegaiko-no-Okimi as his territory, and he is enshrined there. The shrine owns a votive tablet that depicts the 1184 Battle of Ujikawa, and it has been designated a Municipal Cultural Property. A spring bubbles up near the side of the main building, and even now, many people come to drink its waters. For two days on the third weekend in August, the shrine celebrates the Amagoi (Praying for rain) Festival, which features parade floats, portable shrines, and a kabuki parade.

Aichi Areas

around-area-map

Aichi is a prefecture of great natural beauty with Nagoya city at its heart, a busy hub home to a labyrinth of underground shops and the 17th-century Nagoya Castle. Castles are easy to find in this history-rich prefecture, but the highlight for history buffs has to be the Museum Meiji-mura, where preserved buildings from the turn of the 20th century are displayed in all their grandeur in an outdoor museum.
