  • Shiroyama Park

    A 10 minute walk from JR Wakuya Station. This park is situated on the site of a residence on a small hill which belonged to the Wakuya Date clan. There's a history museum built like a castle tower which contains around 1,000 cultural properties with a focus on the Wakuya Date clan as well as items related to the history of the town and local folk culture. One of the original turrets, the Taikodo, still stands nearby and is the only original fortification structure found in the prefecture. The park is a renowned destination for cherry blossom viewing, and in the spring 120 year old weeping cherry, Yoshino cherries, hill cherries, and Sato-zakura cherries come into bloom. A cherry blossom festival is held at the park in mid-April.
  • Kagoboyama's 1,000 Cherry Trees

    Miyagi Osaki-shi
    Kagoboyama, a224 meter high mountain situated on the southeast side of Osaki City, is a renowned destination for viewing cherry blossoms. During the blooming season in spring, visitors can enjoy a landscape consisting of around 2,000 cherry trees covered with flowers, and many locals and tourists come here to take in the sight. The Kagobo Cherry Blossom Festival is held for a roughly month long period from early April until May 6, and during this time the trees are lit up at night. Another plus is that visitors can see not just the cherry blossoms but also the surrounding area, including Sendai City and Ishinomaki City, from the top of the mountain. There's also an observatory and restaurant found here.
  • Ichihasama Sannoshiseki Park Ayame Gardens

    This botanical garden is located in Sanno Historic Park, in Ichihasamamasaka, Kurihara City. The gardens cover approximately 13,000 square meters of land, with 220,000 flowers of around 300 different varieties, including iris sanguinea, iris laevigata and iris ensata. The Sanno Historic Park Iris Festival and various other events are held every year from mid-June to early July.
  • Samurai Residence Shunrantei

    A resting area in TeraikeSakurakoji, Toyoma Town, Tome City along the Maekoji Road. It's located in a preserved former samurai residence built when the area prospered as a castle town. In the attached tea house area you can try Shunran Tea made with salted orchid flowers.
  • Himawari no Oka (Sunflower Hill)

    In spring the hill is covered in rapeseed blossoms and in summer roughly 420,000 sunflowers bloom. In other words, one of the best things about this place is how it looks like the entire area is dyed in yellow. The Himawari Festival is held every year in early August where local products are sold.
  • Naruko Dam

    This concrete gravity-arch dam built in 1957 is about seven minutes by taxi from JR Naruko-Onsen Station. It's on the Eai River, part of the Kitakami River's water basin, and is managed by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. Naruko Onsen and its village are downstream, and the close proximity of the station makes it easy to get to. Its reservoir, Arao Lake, is part of Kurikoma Quasi-National Park and in 2016 was recognized as a Japan Society of Civil Engineers Public Works Heritage site. Photographers and dam enthusiasts visit in droves for the three-day period over the Golden Week holiday when accumulated snowmelt water is released in what they call the Sudare Discharge.
