In the Edo period, Tsugaru Yasuchika, lord of Hirosaki Domain, had some 100 varieties of maple trees transplanted here from Kyoto, and since that time this mountain has become a renowned destination for enjoying fall foliage. In the autumn, visitors can enjoy stunning scenery dyed red and gold as far as the eye can see. During the daytime, you can enjoy a fall bento box lunch along with the sight of the foliage and Fudo Waterfall from the Koyotoko dining platform. At night, the waterfall and foliage are lit up, creating a magical atmosphere.

This is a row of 6,500 North Japanese hill cherry trees planted around the Prefectural Route 3 leading to Mt. Iwaki. The trees were planted over ten years from 1985, and they add a bright red color to the green mountain. The best time is from late April to early May every year. Since the trees are planted in areas with altitudes differing by 250 meters, the flowering period varies slightly depending on the location and they can be enjoyed over a long period of time.

"Ajigasawa Town was established as a port town in the distant Kamakura period and served as an official port of the local feudal domain for maritime activities on the Sea of Japan in the Edo period, in addition to being a relay point between the Kyoto area and Hokkaido. Blessed with abundant seafood, the town has many seafood specialty products, such as smoked fish and fish dried in the cold midwinter air, but it is the town's half-dried squid that is particularly well-known. The strings of squid being dried in the open air along the National Route look like curtains and thus naturally have come to be called ""squid curtains."""

Centuries-old stories of samurai at Kakunodate and the remains of millennia-old archaeological sites including the likes of Isedotai invite history buffs to delve into Aomori’s fascinating history. As the most northern prefecture on the Japanese mainland, Aomori enjoys a cooler climate, which makes it a welcome escape from the southern cities for combining castles, art galleries, and summer festivals with the great outdoors.
