This venerable hot spring ryokan in Nakashibetsu Town, Shibetsu County, Hokkaido was established in 1929. All the baths are supplied with natural hot spring water, and guests flock to enjoy their outdoor baths. There are also indoor baths and private ones to match any group needs. The ryokan itself has a large sunken fireplace to sit by and relax.

Stayed 2 nights. The ryokan experience starts with being met in the car park, bags whisked away, shoes off at the entrance and slippers provided. Then an orientation with a very nice Vietnamese lady...

Hokkaido Shibetsu-gun Nakashibetsu Cho Yoroushi Onsen
A secluded hot spring district located deep in the woods 27 kilometers from the center of Nakashibetsu Town. The hot springs here were used by the indigenous Ainu people 400 years ago and were developed as a hot spring resort destination 100 years ago. The outdoor baths here are particularly renowned. The waters of the area's sulfur-containing common salt springs are said to treat rheumatic diseases, movement disorders, wounds, chronic eczema, and keratosis, in addition to strengthening children with weak constitutions. The district has two hot spring lodging facilities as well as a free mixed bathing outdoor bath situated a little ways away. Surrounded by natural beauty, rare wild animals can also occasionally be spotted here. Surrounding attractions include gorgeous Yoro Falls situated along the Moshibetsu River, a tributary of the Shibetsu River; the Kaiyodai Observatory, which boasts a 330 degree panoramic view of the area; and Lake Mashu, which has been designated a Hokkaido Heritage Site.

Hokkaido Areas

around-area-map

Not just a prefecture but an island of its own, Hokkaido is the most northerly prefecture and island of the Japanese archipelago. Arriving in Hokkaido, which is rural and bursting with breathtaking nature, means entering a world where vast national parks, towering mountains, and natural hot springs can be found at every turn. Come December, these natural splendors freeze over and morph into a winter wonderland.
