The Shiretoko World Heritage Rusa Field House was established to spread awareness of the Shiretoko Peninsula (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), including its terrestrial and marine ecosystems, the importance of the seas of Shiretoko, etc. The Field House also provides talks about the important rules to follow and responsible behavior when visiting the area, with the aim of preventing unnecessary accidents and safeguarding the natural environment. The Field House is open between May 1 and October 31 each year. The Field House is located approximately two hours and 40 minutes’ drive from Memanbetsu Airport on National Highway 334, and around 20 minutes’ drive from Rausu City.

Hokkaido Areas

around-area-map

Not just a prefecture but an island of its own, Hokkaido is the most northerly prefecture and island of the Japanese archipelago. Arriving in Hokkaido, which is rural and bursting with breathtaking nature, means entering a world where vast national parks, towering mountains, and natural hot springs can be found at every turn. Come December, these natural splendors freeze over and morph into a winter wonderland.
