Mukojima-Hyakkaen Gardens
The gardens were first opened in the Edo period as a privately owned garden dedicated to the appreciation of flowering plants. Today, this renowned garden lets visitors enjoy a variety of flowers throughout the year. The gardens are also designated a National Place of Scenic Beauty and Historic Site. The gardens’ style differs from that of the gardens of feudal lords still found in Japan, offering a charming beauty that is more oriented toward the tastes of the general populace as well as persons of letters. Yoshino cherries and other cherry trees are planted on the grounds; with early blooming varieties blossoming in late February and late blooming varieties flowering as late as late April, visitors can enjoy a diverse variety of cherry trees. The sight of Tokyo Skytree towering beyond the gardens’ cherry trees is also stunning. Toilets available. The gardens are open from 9:00 to 17:00 (last entry 16:30). The entrance fee is 150 yen for adults and free for elementary school students and under as well as middle school students living and attending school in Tokyo. The nearest station is Higashi-mukoujima Station.
