A Shinto shrine located in Chofumiyanouchi-cho, Shimonoseki City. It has a long history and was mentioned in the ancient Kojiki. The shrine is dedicated to Emperor Chuai, Empress Jingu, and Emperor Ojin. The annual Suhotei Festival is held from August 7th to 13th and is considered one of the most extraordinary festivals in the land.

仲哀天皇の仮皇居後に在ります

設置されている案内板からですが、日本武尊の息子である仲哀天皇が熊襲征伐時にこの地を仮の皇居としたそうです。父の熊襲征伐も有名ですが息子である天皇も行ったと初めて知りました。史実はともかく、旅行して初めて知ることでした。境内は広く感じます。また拝殿前に碁盤が有りました。あれはどうするのだろうと一つの疑問を抱えながら後にしました。
