Oyatsu to Yamaneko (おやつとやまねこ)

4.5

Miscellaneous Goods

A small sweets shop located a three minute walk from Onomichi Station identifiable by its old-fashioned orange and white-striped cloth awning. The shop sells popular treats made with select ingredients, such as the signature Onomichi pudding made with milk from cows living on farms in Hiroshima, local fresh eggs, and Hokkaido beet sugar. This popular pudding has a smooth texture and deep flavor, and is fast becoming a new standard Onomichi souvenir among tourists. People also love the cute jars the pudding is sold in, which is decorated with the shop’s wildcat mark. Add a little of the provided lemon sauce to enjoy a refreshing flavor differing from that of the pudding eaten plain. The shop also sell’s popular baked sweets such as biscotti and cookies.

There is more than meets the eye awaiting any Hiroshima-bound traveler. Kicking off in Hiroshima city, the Peace Memorial Park, Hiroshima Castle, and Shukkeien Garden offer a couple of days of exploring; however, the real beauty lies along the southern coast of the prefecture. There, a series of islands spreads across the Seto Inland Sea: from the mysterious sea-submerged Great Torii Gate at Miyajima Island to the first half of the islands that connect Honshu to Shikoku via six spectacular suspension bridges.
