Getting toYokohama Chinatown from Tokyo / Shibuya / Yokohama Station

Yokohama being the second largest city in Japan is not only easily accessible from Tokyo, but is chock-full of popular sightseeing areas. One of which is Yokohama's Chinatown. This popular tourist spot is a gourmet paradise with all sorts of goodies waiting to be discovered!

    From Tokyo Station to Yokohama Chinatown

    From Tokyo Station, catching a train to Yokohama Chinatown will take you roughly 50 minutes. There are multiple routes you can take to get there, but we will focus on two routes; one without any transfers and one that takes you to the closest station to Chinatown.

    Let's begin with the route that doesn't have any transfers. This route does involve a bit of a walking from the station, so you should take this route if the weather is nice out.

    From Tokyo Station, take the JR Keihin Tohoku / Negishi Line Rapid to Ishikawacho Station.

    Time required: Approximately 45 minutes
    Fare: 570 yen

    It's only a 15 minute walk from Ishikawachou station to Yokohama Chinatown.
    When you get to Ishikawacho Station, head towards the North Exit (Chukagai Entrance) and continue to the left where you'll now see the "Seiyomon"(西陽門) gate. Go through the gate and go straight ahead. On the other side of the pedestrian crossing will be the West gate. If you keep on going you will hit Chinatown's entrance called “Zenrinmon” (善隣門).

    Route 2

    Next, we'll introduce a route that takes you to Motomachi・Chukagai Station which is the closest station to Yokohama Chinatown. You will need to make one transfer for this route though.

    From Tokyo Station, take the JR Tokaido Main Line or Yokosuka Line to Yokohama Station. Then take the Minato Mirai Line to Motomachi・Chukagai Station.

    Time required: Approximately 45 minutes
    Fare: 700 yen

    When you arrive at Motomachi・Chukagai Station, you can use the Chinatown Exit (Exit 3), but we recommend that you make your exit from Yamashita Park Exit (Exit 1). The underpass is long, but when you get out onto the street above, you'll see the “East Gate” on your left side.

    From Shibuya Station to Yokohama Chinatown

    If you are departing from Shibuya Station, you are in luck! There is a direct train that goes from Shibuya Station to Yokohama Chinatown. Shibuya is also a great tourist spot, so try incorporating it into your itinerary.

    From Shibuya Station, take the Tokyu Toyoko Line to Motomachi・Chukagai Station.

    Time required: Approximately 40 minutes
    Fares: ¥ 500

    The walking route from Motomachi・Chinatown Station is the same as the previous route.

    From Yokohama Station to Yokohama Chinatown

    Yokohama Station is very close to Yokohama Chinatown. You can get to both "Ishikawacho Station" and "Motomachi・Chukagai Station" in around 8 minutes.

    From Ishikawachou Station:
