Located an approximately 20-minute drive from the Hasami-Arita Interchange on the Nishi-Kyushu Expressway, this valley is situated upstream from the Ryumon Dam, and makes up a corner of Kurokamiyama National Park. The flowing water is so clean that it was chosen as one of the Top 100 Famous Water and the Top 100 Forested Water, and it is famous for its river fish dishes such as carp, eel and sweetfish raised in this water. There is a promenade along the valley, and you can enjoy the walk to Mt. Kurokami while enjoying cherry blossoms in the spring, brilliant greenery in the summer, and colorful leaves in the autumn. There is also a campsite nearby.

Saga Areas

around-area-map

Away from the fast-paced cities of mainland Japan, Kyushu’s Saga prefecture offers quaint towns and cities known for their traditional crafts, particularly ceramics. Rich in kaolin (a type of clay), Saga became the homeland of Arita ware, a delicate, decorative porcelain that is now celebrated worldwide and can be discovered in the towns of Arita, Imari, and Karatsu.
