- Kyoto Kyoto-shi Kamigyo-ku Higashi
- This study and tearoom is said to be where the late Edo Period Confucian scholar Rai Sanyo spent his later years. The open and well-lit room features an excellent view of Kyoto's eastern mountains. You would be hard-pressed to find a finer example of a mountain retreat in the city. Please note that tours require applying in advance.

Not far from Keihan Jingu Marutamachi station, there is an ancient residence of Rai Sanyo. I guess the backyard is facing Kamo River. So, it is a very nice location. However, this is now a private...

There is an explanation panel, and I understand it is an old temple. But the gate was closed and there was a notice “don’t take picture “. Every temple has its own policy. So, I skipped this temple.

Kyoto Areas
Its wooden tea houses, shuffling geisha, and spiritual sights have seen Kyoto hailed as the heart of traditional Japan, a world apart from ultramodern Tokyo. Despite being the Japanese capital for over a century, Kyoto escaped destruction during World War II, leaving behind a fascinating history which can be felt at every turn, from the fully gold-plated Kinkakuji Temple down to traditional customs such as geisha performances and tea ceremonies, which are still practiced to this day.
