    This castle on a hill, located in Maruoka Town of Sakai City, Fukui Prefecture, was built by Shibata Katsuie’s nephew Shibata Katsutoyo in 1576. Nowadays, only two-story and three-roofed castle tower (tenshukaku) remains, and it was registered as Important Cultural Properties in 1950. It is the oldest tenshukaku in existence in the country, and about 400 cherry trees were planted around it as part of the surrounding Kasumigajo Park. A light-up event is held when the cherry blossoms bloom, giving the tower an ethereal look.

    A historical building in Minamihonmachi 3-Chome, Mikuni-cho, Sakai City. It was built in 1920 as the bank headquarters for the local Morita family who made a fortune in the shipping business. It is the oldest reinforced concrete building remaining in the prefecture and is registered as a Tangible Cultural Property of Japan.

It has much to see, including the sansui garden, a Place of Scenic Beauty in the country. This spectacular Japanese garden offers a nice atmosphere through each of the four seasons.

    A shrine in Sanno, Mikuni-cho 6-Chome, Sakai City. The enshrined deities of worship are Oyamakui-no-Mikoto and Emperor Keitai. The grounds are thick with Japanese Zelkova trees and are home to the Zuijinmon two-storied gate, the largest in the prefecture and a registered as a Tangible Cultural Property of the Prefecture. The Mikuni Festival is held every May and features floats decorated with large samurai figures that are paraded through the town. The festival always draws large crowds.

    A memorial hall located in front of Awara Yunomachi Station in Onsen 1-Chome, Awara City. A variety of materials are on display including the publications and medical instruments of Genkuro Fujino, an anatomist from the region who was famously the teacher of Chinese scholar Lu Xun. It operates out of the former Fujino family residence and the building is registered as a Tangible Cultural Property of Japan.

    A temple in Nagasaki, Maruoka-cho, Sakai City. In began in 721 as a hall containing the image of Amitabha founded by the monk Taicho on imperial request from Empress Gensho. Later, during the Kamakura period, the monk Ippen expanded it into a Jishu Sect temple and it flourished as the premier Amitabha prayer location in the Hokuriku region. It's also registered as a historic location of the prefecture due to being the gravesite for the samurai Nitta Yoshisada who was active during the Nanboku-cho period (mid-late 14th century).

    Born from the amalgamation of 20 years of history and the thoughts of many people, the Ippitsu Keijo Tegami Museum began with “Ippitsu Keijosho Award” built of the theme of Honda Sakuzemon Shigetsugu’s letters. In the regular exhibit, you can see the history of the “Ippitsu Keijosho Award” along with the prize-winning pieces. Also, sometimes special exhibits are held.

    With its surroundings referred to as “Rennyo no Sato”, the Yoshizaki Gobo Temple Remains have a tradition of being selected as a missionary base in Hokuriku by Rennyo Shonin, restorer of the Hongan-ji Jodo Shinshu sect of Buddhism. It is still visited by many today. Its largest festival—the “Rennyoki” (anniversary of Rennyo’s death)—is held every year from late April to May.

You can view the inside of the house and with reservation you can dine in a cafe which uses the house's sunken hearth.

    A historical location located alongside Prefectural Route 7 in Kaji, Mikuni-cho, Sakai City. This is the remains of a battery built in 1852 to defend the coast of the Maruoka Domain. Remains of parapets, which would provide defense from attack while allowing return fire were built from mounded earth and stretch 33 meters from the east to the west. The site is designated as a National Historic Location.

    A historical building located in Kitahonmachi 4-Chome, Mikun-cho, Sakai City. The house is located in the Mikuni Minato port area which flourished in the Edo and early Meiji periods due to the Kitamaebune shipping routes which ran across the Sea of Japan. It was the former residence of the Kishina family who worked for generations as lumber dealers and used the house to distribute goods brought down to the port town along the Kazuryu River. The house is registered as a Tangible Cultural Property of Japan. The house is open to the public and various materials are on display within the building.
