Roadside Station Assabu
A roadside station built with asunaro cypress located in Assabu Town. The station sells May Queen potatoes, a variety which became a local specialty product in Assabu in 1925, as well as asparagus, corn, and other fresh vegetables; black soybean tea; potato shochu, and other foods and drinks. Live music performances and other events are held in the spacious rest area and you can also buy a popular soft serve ice cream here as well as drinks and snacks, croquettes, and other tasty treats made with May Queen potatoes.

- 地元の味が楽しめます
- 日本海側の八雲から渡島半島を縦断した最中、休憩に最適なスポットでした。メークインの故郷だそうで、ほかにも地元の農産物が所狭しと並べられていて、買い物客で混雑していました。

- 江差町の市街地から国道227号線を北に進むと、やがて国道は日本海を後にして東に進んでいきました。厚沢部町に入ってまもなくのあたりの右側に、こちらの道の駅がありました。 木の外観の巨大な三角形の正面が印象的な建物で、館内には厚沢部町の特産品がたくさん並んでいました。見て回っていると、厚沢部町は、あのメークイン発祥の地だったことを知りました。

- 江差町中心部を後にした私たちは、国道227号線を函館方面に向かいました。途中、厚沢部町に入ったところにあった道の駅に立ち寄ってみました。 この道の駅あっさぶの建物は地元産のヒバ材がふんだんに使われているそうで、ヒバ材のよい香りがほんわりと感じられました。 厚沢部町は、あのメークイン発祥の地であることを初めて知りました。メークイン焼酎などの特産品も、ユニークな品々がそろっていました。
