'귀없는 호이치'와 '설녀'의 작자로 알려져 있고, 일본의 문화와 관습 등을 서양에 전한 것으로도 알려져 있는 고이즈미 야쿠모 본명 라프카디오 헌. 이곳 마쓰에에 있는 고이즈미 야쿠모 옛집은 야쿠모가 1891년 5월부터 약 5개월간 살았던 집이다. 옛집 관람의 특징은 '정원'이 관람 대상으로 되어 있다는 점. 야쿠모의 작품 '알려지지 않은 일본의 모습'의 무대이기도 한 정원은 추천할만한 볼거리이다. 야쿠모가 살았던 당시 그대로 보존되어 있는 건물은 현재 이 고이즈미 야쿠모 옛집뿐이다.

Interesting display of how this foreigner grew up and eventually established a relationship with Japan and came to settle there. Its also quiet and peaceful there.

Okay, we didnt really know anything about him before we planned our trip to Matsue, but nonetheless its still interesting to be able to walk around a well preserved and restored building from that...

There was only one visitor besides me. Most visitors go to memorial hall but skip the residence. So if you like nice and quiet, this is place to be.
