Shayokan, Osamu Dazai Memorial Hall

Shayokan stands along Prefectural Route 2 in Asahiyama, Kanagi Town, Goshogawara City. The building, a stately wood residence built in 1907 before Osamu Dazai was born, is now a designated National Important Cultural Property. The museum makes use of the residence storehouse as an exhibition space, display some of Dazai’s favorite personal goods, manuscripts, letters, and his first edition books.

I grew up in Aomori but it was my first visit to his birth place. I could imagine this place looked like a modern castle surrounded by rice fields, nothing to obscure the views from this third story...

個人的に言えば、太宰にはたいして思い入れはなかったが、単純に明治末期から大正、戦前にかけて作られた地方の大地主の邸宅とみても、とても興味深い建物だ。津島家は近年に至るまで国会議員（今でもいたらごめんなさい）を輩出した青森県の名門だが、地主とすると結構新興の部類だとか。外見は煉瓦塀に囲まれ、ちょっと洋風の趣もある。しかし、玄関を入ると日本的な古くからの地主の邸宅。その一方で階段は西洋風な雰囲気があり...

太宰治の生家です。内部に入ることが出来ます。愛用のマントを着て写真撮影も出来ます。家は結構広く様々な展示物があり楽しめました。
