Bigozensha-jinja Shrine

Bigozensha-jinja Shrine is located on the grounds of Yasaka Shrine in Kyoto's Higashiyama Ward, and it is said to have arisen from the sword of the god Susa-no-o-no-Mikoto. Three goddesses are enshrined here. On the grounds there is a spring with water that is supposed to beautify one's skin, so many women who are interested in improving their looks make pilgrimages to this shrine. Every year in November, barbers and hairdressers come to this shrine to pray for better skills and prosperity at the Barbers' and Hairdressers' Thanksgiving Festival.

ツアーのフリータイムで訪問しました。小さなお社です。祇園の舞妓さんや芸妓さんがお参りするそうです。そばに身も心も美しくと書かれた石と澄んだ水が流れていました。少しとって顔に付けました。美しくなれるかな？

八坂神社本殿の円山公園寄りに、美御前社という小さな神社がありました。ご祭神が容姿端麗であったとの言い伝えから美容の神として人気で、女性の参詣が多いという神社です。お社の前には、湧き出るご神水「美容水」をたたえている石がありました。この美用水は、肌に数滴つけると身も心も綺麗になるという言い伝えがあります。もちろん私も、つけてみましたよ。効果は？・・・
