Taimatsu Akashi
A traditional event which has been performed in Sukagawa, Fukushima Prefecture for over 400 years. The Taimatsu Akashi is said to have been started to memorialize those who lost their lives in a battle which occurred in 1589. Around 150 energetic young people carry torches 10 meters long and weighing three tons through the city to a meeting ground at Gorozan, creating a stunning spectacle. This thrilling event is considered one of Japan's three greatest fire festivals.
