Sanzen-in Temple
A Buddhist temple located in Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture, together with the Shoren-in Temple and Myoho-in Temple, the Sanzen-in Temple is one of the three Monzeki Temples of Tendai Buddhism. Visited by large numbers of people throughout the year, some of the temple’s highlights include the Ojo Gokuraku-in (Amida Hall), a designated Important Cultural Property and symbol of the Ohara area, and a beautiful Japanese garden. In spring, some 300 weeping cherries, Yoshino cherries, hill cherries, and other cherry tree varieties come into bloom on the temple’s grounds. The weeping cherries in the Okunoin are particularly spectacular. The best time to view the blossoms is from mid to late April. The temple’s gates are open from 8:30 to 17:00 (gates close at 17:30) March to December. Entry is 700 yen for general admission, 400 yen for junior high and high school students, 150 yen for elementary school students. Toilets available. No parking available.
