Mochio Park
This premier cherry blossom viewing spot in southern Kyushu is known as the “Thousand Cherry Trees of Mochio.” About 2,600 trees of varieties such as Yoshino and double-flowered cherries bloom throughout the park. An impressive two kilometers of flowering trees line the streets, and when in full bloom, the whole park turns the rosy hues of the cherry blossoms. Annually, during the flowering season, events such as evening illumination of the blossoms and the Miyakonojo Mochio Cherry Blossom Festival are held, and the park bustles with visitors who come to view the blossoms. This is the only park in Miyazaki Prefecture that has been selected as one of Japan’s top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots.
