Shizumine Furusato Park
Shizumine Furusato Park is located on hilly land in Naka City, Ibaraki Prefecture. The Park has children’s play equipment, a water stage, a ground golf course, etc. It has been selected for inclusion in the list of Japan’s Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots, and is famous for its double-flowered cherry trees. In total, there are approximately 2,000 double-flowered cherry trees of around 10 different varieties (including Kanzan, etc.), along with around 200 Yoshino cherry trees. After the Yoshino trees start to lose their blossom in late April, the double-flowered cherry trees begin to flower in early May; when they are in full bloom, they make a beautiful contrast with the moss phlox, which is also in flower at this time. A “Yaezakura Cherry Blossom Festival” is held to coincide with the period when the double-flowered cherry blossoms are in full bloom; during the Festival, the cherry blossom is illuminated in the evenings, and various on-stage events are held. Shizumine Furusato Park is open from 9:00 until 17:00 (opening hours are extended for the illuminations during the Yaezakura Cherry Blossom Festival). The Park is closed on Mondays (except when a public holiday falls on a Monday, in which case the Park is closed on the next working day; the Park does not close on Mondays during the Festival). Toilets, shops and paid parking available.
