Ontake Prefectural Natural Park
A natural park stretching across the entirety of Mt. Ontake in Kiyokawa Town, Bungoono City, Oita Prefecture. The park is also a renowned destination for cherry blossom viewing in spring. Some 3,000 cherry trees grow along the woodland path leading to the top of the mountain, and a particularly stunning six kilometer long stretch of cherry trees is nicknamed “Cherry Blossom Road.” The park is a popular place to enjoy cherry blossoms amidst natural beauty; during blooming season, large numbers of families come to the area carrying bento box lunches. On clear days, its summit offers sweeping views of the cherry trees, Kuju Mountains, Mt. Aso, and Mt. Yufu.
