Izushi Castle Ruins
The only castle ruins in Izushi, the little Kyoto of northern Hyogo Prefecture. The castle site is also a renowned destination for cherry tree blossoms in spring. One of the castle's corner turrets was rebuilt in 1968, and from the top visitors can get a sweeping view of the old castle town of Izushi. The best time to see fall foliage at the site in most years is from late October. The site's crimson torii gate and moss-covered stone paving sets off the vivid fall colors of the Japanese maples and gingkoes that grow here. There are also many restaurants nearby serving Izushi soba noodles, a local specialty dish, and many tourists visit this area year round.
