Zao Onsen
Zao Onsen is one of the best hot spring resorts in Yamagata Prefecture. From around late September, Japanese rowan, Japanese maple, and Japanese rowans begin to turn their fall colors, and visitors can enjoy the foliage until about mid-October. If you take the ropeway to the top of Mt. Torikabuto, you'll see the beautiful crimson gradation of the Zao Mountain Range's foliage from above.
