Hokkawa Onsen

Hot Spring / Hot Spring Bath
A hot spring district which, in 2017, was chosen for inclusion in a list of Japan's 100 most famous views of the moon which should be preserved for future generations to enjoy. The area is also where the Kurone Iwaburo is found, an outdoor rock bath selected as one of the 10 most picturesque baths surrounded by beautiful natural scenery in the country. Constantly replenished kakenagashi style from a natural earthy chloride common salt spring, the bath is situated on a beach at the water's edge, and bathers will feel like they're floating in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. There are many traditional ryokan inns with hot springs in the area, each of which offers exquisite seafood and each of which boasts its own unique touches, such as an inn with a private reservable rooftop outdoor bath from which bathers can get a spectacular view, and another inn which takes great pride in its dishes made with abalone gathered by young master divers. Here visitors can enjoy all the delights of a simple yet warm portside hot spring town.
