This public hot spring bathhouse stands on the Oita River a short distance from the Yunotsubo Kaido. The historic bathhouse, whose name even appears in Edo period publications, was remodeled in 1995. Customers can enjoy a relaxing soak in a bath with a hinoki cypress rim which is supplied with free-flowing water from a colorless spring said to help bathers have children. The bathhouse is unstaffed and customers enter by putting their money in a collection box outside. Members of a management association, however, clean the bathhouse daily, ensuring that it is neat and clean. Note that the bathhouse has no towels, soap, or other amenities, so be sure to bring your own.

街道の真ん中ぐらいにある200円の立ち寄り湯

ちょっとひと休み感覚で立ち寄れる浴場。無人なのでお金を箱にいれてから入ります。平日の昼過ぎにいきましたが、男女とも誰も入っていなかったので独泉状態、ゆっくり入れました。浴槽はひとつ。洗い場みたいなスペースが2か所ありますが、蛇口からは水しか出ません。やや熱めの湯でしたが、少しつかっていれば慣れ、ちょうどいい湯加減に。源泉かけ流しで、この場所でこの値段。物足りなさ感はありますが、風情もあ...
湯の坪街道から少し入った川沿いにある、共同浴場

金鱗湖から川沿いを歩いて行くと、湯の坪街道あたりの川沿いにあります。榎屋旅館の目の前、小さなひなびた建物で、周りの風景に静かに溶け込んでいます。地元民などが作った共同浴場とのことで、200円で入れます。今のにぎやかさではなく、かつてのひなびた温泉街に、地元のみなさんの生活に密着している感じです。

湯布院まで来たので温泉入りたいと思った時に発見。大衆浴場だとバスタオルも借りられないな。と迷っていると、ゆのつぼ温泉の裏手にある焼き芋も売っている気さくなおばさんのお店でタオル購入出来ることが発覚。ゆのつぼ温泉入ってみて、すごく清潔で正直驚き。気持ち良く入浴していると太陽の光が丁度湯船に差し込んで湯気がすごく綺麗。地元のおばさま達曰く、「私達も入るから掃除は念入りなの」とのこと。マナ...
