Former Sakoshiura Meeting Hall
This historic site is located about a 15-minute drive east from the Ako Interchange on the Sanyo Expressway. The residence, which once served as a meeting place, sits at the bottom of the central avenue connecting Sakoshi Port and Chikusa River. Kankaian, the small lounge on the second floor, was for the exclusive use of the lord of the Ako Domain. The beautiful Sakoshi Port can be seen through the window of the room, which is slightly lower than the rest of the second floor. The building was constructed in 1831-1832 to serve as a place to meet to discuss governance, commerce, and other administrative affairs. The building, which also served a teahouse for the Ako Domain until the dawn of the Meiji Period, was designated as a Tangible Cultural Property of Ako City in 1992.
