The 500 Arhats of the Rengeji Temple

Temple
"This ancient Shingon Buddhist temple is the 74th temple on the Awaji Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage. The temple is said to have been named in 1332 by a priest on a pilgrimage across the country after the Rengemine Temple in Kyoto affiliated with Emperor Uda. The temple's ""500 arhat"" statues, virtually synonymous with the temple itself, consist of 530 statues of arhats which records state began being made the priest Jitsunyo. Each wooden statue has its own unique expression and posture, and it is said that the statues have become objects of worship because visitors looking at them feel as if they are being soothed or encouraged by their own parents."
