This museum is located in Murotsu Mitsu-cho, Tatsuno City. The museum operates out of a townhome built in the late Edo period by the Shimaya, a wealthy merchant family which operated a cargo vessel wholesaling business. The museum introduces the history of the port town of Murotsu via four themes: Cargo vessels, the Sankin-kotai Edo period policy requiring major samurai lords to alternate living in their home domain and the capital of Edo each year, the Dutch missions to Edo, and the Korean delegations to Japan. The museum is also adjoined by a cafe and shop.

風待ち室津港で栄えた豪商の家のつくりを感じさせてくれました。民俗館と共通券で300円で入れました。豪商の館らしく隠し階段がその歴史の側面を物語っていました。

参覲交代や朝鮮通信使など、当時の資料が詳しく、建物の雰囲気も良くて、時間を忘れてしまうくらい。立派な欄間が展示してあって、シダかなと思ってたら、藤だと教えてもらいました。斬新なデザイン！
