Hotaru Park
Fussa City, which still has plenty of natural green space, is one of the few places in Tokyo where you can see fireflies. In the 1950s, packs of fireflies in the trees that run along Tamagawajosui River were said to have looked like a light pageant. Afterwards, Hotaru Park was established as a location to protect the fireflies that were in decline as urbanization continued to advance. The Fussa Firefly Festival is held annually in mid-June when about 500 fireflies are released in the area around Hotaru Park and Tamagawa Josui's Ome Bridge. Around the venue there are refreshment booths and food stands with local cuisine, and there are performances on the stage set up for the event, so it has become an event that reminds you of early summer in Fussa.
