Yumedono (Hall of Dreams)

This Buddhist hall was constructed in memory of Prince Shotoku in 748 on the site of the prince's Ikaruga no Miya palace by Gyoshin, a high priest highly trusted by the Imperial Court and who lamented the destruction of the prince's palace. Designated a National Treasure, the principal object of worship enshrined in the hall is made specially viewable to the general public for approximately one month in both the spring and fall.

東院伽藍の中にあります。思ったよりも大きなお堂で、八角形は当時の技術では限りなく円に近い形なのだそうです。お祀りされている救世観音立像は、春と秋の公開時にしか見れないそうです。

東院伽藍の入口近くにあります。3〜4箇所にある窓から内部を見ることができます。写真撮影禁止でした。歴史を感じさせる仏像などが置かれていたと思います。五重塔のある西院伽藍入口で1,500円の共通券を購入すればこちら夢殿含む東院側の建物も少しお得に拝観出来ます。
太子信仰の聖地

八角円堂の建物で太子信仰の聖地と言われています。中には救世観音菩薩像が安置されていますが、中には入れず、四方の窓から祈願できます。
