Mausoleum of Emperor Richu

This ancient burial mound is located in Ishizugaoka, Nishi Ward, Sakai City. Believed to have been constructed in the early-fifth century, the keyhole-shaped tumulus is 365 meters long, making it the third largest in all of Japan. The tomb is managed by the Imperial Household Agency as the imperial mausoleum of Emperor Richu, the 17th Emperor of Japan. One of the tombs of the Mozu Burial Mounds dotting Sakai City, it is also part of the Mozu-Furuichi Kofun Group World Heritage listing along with the Furuichi Ancient Tumulus Clusters in Habikino City and Fujiidera City.
