This historic site is located in 1-Chome Nishi, Shukuin-cho, Sakai Ward, Sakai City. The founder of the Urasenke tea ceremony school, Sen no Rikyu was a master of the tea ceremony who served the powerful Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi. This place was the location of Sen no Rikyu's residence; the Tsubaki Well he used still stands on the site. The Sakai Plaza of Rikyu and Akiko, consisting of the Sen no Rikyu Chanoyu Museum and the Yosano Akiko Museum, is located across from the site.
