This museum is located in Nakatane Town in central Tanegashima Island. It studies and exhibits archeological artifacts, folk cultural properties, and other items that substantiate the history that built the island's rich indigenous culture. The museum's second floor exhibits relics discovered in the Tachikiri Ruins, believed to be Japan's oldest settlement. Visitors can look back on the history of the island from the Paleolithic era to today. The first floor features a recreation of a home of the Taisho to Showa periods. Other exhibits on the first floor include farming implements and other everyday items that were once actually used, a sugar cane press, and Tanegashima's last dugout canoe.

種子島の町の中央部、国道58号線沿いにあります。昔の種子島の暮らしがよくわかりました。約31,000年前の立切遺跡など、埋蔵文化財の遺物も展示されています
遺跡コーナーも

まさに民俗資料館という感じの展示で民家の様子や、農工具などが展示されています。二階には遺跡に関した展示があり、大きな絵もあって遺跡のイメージがわかりやすいものでした。
土器や石斧が充実した資料館

2017年5月に行きました。中種子町にある民俗資料館です。ここには種子島で出土した土器や石器類が多数展示されていて、縄文や弥生時代から人々が生活していた痕跡を間近に見ることが出来ます。広田遺跡は有名ですが、それ以外のも種子島にたくさんの遺跡があるのを知って驚きました。
