Ohara House Katalyzer (語らい座 大原本邸)
4.0
A 15-minute walk from JR Kurashiki Station. Located within the Former Ohara Family Residence, a designated Important Cultural Property of Japan, in front of Ohara Museum of Art in Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter. The Ohara House was built during the late Edo period and this is the actual house that various members of the Ohara family actually resided in, including Ohara Magosaburo, the founder of the Museum of Art. You can freely wander around the grounds even as far as the detached section of the house, from which you can see the Japanese garden, and can follow the stone path to the storehouse. Within the grounds you'll find creative exhibits about the Ohara family including the Downpour of Words and can also visit the cafe surrounded by the Ohara family's library.

Okayama Areas

Overshadowed by Hiroshima to the west and the Kansai region to the east, Okayama is an easy spot to miss but a nature-rich gem where the Seto Inland Sea laps at its toes and peach and grape farms complete its interior. One of Japan’s Three Great Gardens, Koraku-en in Okayama city is well worth a visit before progressing to Kurashiki, where preserved wooden Edo buildings line the picturesque canal.
