Nawa Shrine

This Shinto shrine is one of the most famous destinations for flower viewing in the San'in region. Originally quite small, in 1883 the shrine was rebuilt and became one of the largest in Tottori prefecture. Some 400 Yoshino cherries have been planted along the approach to the shrine, and when they come into bloom in spring they form a veritable tunnel of cherry blossoms. The shrine is dedicated to the souls of Nawa Nagatoshi and 42 others who went to rescue Emperor Go-Daigo from the Oki Islands and fought hard for their ruler in the Nanbokucho period.

南朝の功臣名和長年を祀る神社。JR名和駅の近くにあり徒歩でも行ける距離ですが、車でのアクセスが便利です。神社自体は非常に静かな雰囲気で、厳粛な感じがします。歴史好きな方やパワースポット好きの方向きの場所です。

鳥取県の名山、大山の北側の大山町名和の地にある神社。後醍醐天皇の元、鎌倉幕府討伐に貢献したこの地方の武将である名和長年公を祀る神社です。楠木正成や足利尊氏、新田義貞ほどの知名度はありませんが、後醍醐天皇の建武の新政下ではかなり重用され、楠木正成・結城親光・千種忠顕らと合わせて三木一草と称された後醍醐天皇の重要な武将の１人です。ちなみに名和長年の官職が伯耆守であったことから伯耆（⇒ホウキ）に掛けて楠...

久しぶりに訪ねた。建武の中興で活躍し、三木一草とうたわれた名和長年を祭神とする神社だ。長年の居宅跡とされる場所で、長年は後醍醐天皇を報じて挙兵することを決した後、屋敷を焼き払い、船上山にたてこもった。その後、楠木正成と比肩する功績を認められて別格官幣社となり、現在の姿に整備される。近くの名和公園と併せて桜の名所として知られ、桜の季節だけ特別に列車が停車したという。近隣には長年伝説が散在しているが...
