Bungoro Gama
A 15-minute drive from the Shigaraki Interchange on the Shin-Meishin Expressway. This longstanding pottery studio has been in business since 1862. The studio was established by Bungoro Okuda I when he built a climbing kiln where the pottery studio still stands today. Bungo Okuda, the current and fifth generation head of the studio specializes in making ceramic bathtubs and other large pottery pieces using a potter's wheel, while his younger brother, Akira Okuda, makes simple, modern, and highly utilitarian tableware which blends in with both Japanese and Western decors. The studio's gallery, Bungoro Soko, which operates out of a remodeled warehouse, displays and sells pieces by Akira and can also be rented out for use as an exhibition space or for other events.
