This museum is located inside Sagae Park in Sagae Nagaoka, Sagae City. Ancient articles are exhibited there, such as historical records and folk materials from the Nishimurayama County period, and artifacts excavated from the historical ruins in the surrounding area. The museum is housed in the former Nishimurayama County government office and assembly hall, both of which have been designated as Tangible Cultural Properties of the prefecture.

桜・つつじまつり期間中は入館無料

4月中旬辺りから5月にかけて郷土館のある寒河江公園で行われる桜・つつじまつり期間中は、入館無料です。公園の桜を見たついでに寄りましたが、郷土館の辺りでも桜が咲いていて、野点などのイベントが行われていました。館内では寒河江の人々の暮らしの道具や資料などの展示、郷土の名士の解説などがありました。
目立たないけど意外に面白いです

寒河江公園の一角？にあります。普段は有料のようですがお祭りがあり5月末まで無料で入館できるようです。2棟の和洋折衷の建物の中にいろんな展示があり、意外に興味深かったです。

旧郡役所と旧議事堂を活用した資料館です。地方政治の歴史を学べるのかと思いきや、それだけではありませんでした。縄文時代の土器から始まり、現代に至るまで、2000年近い歴史を学べました。その中で、昔の日本地図の展示がおもしろかったです。これが日本とは思えないほど歪んでいて方角や距離はめちゃくちゃなのですが、青森から九州まで地名が正確に記載されています。測位も通信も技術がなかった時代の人々がこれを作っ...
