Toki no Kane Bell-Tower

Historical Monument
This bell tower was ordered to be constructed by Sakai Tadakatsu, then Lord of the Kawagoe Domain, sometime between 1627 and 1634 at its current location in what was then Taga Town (now Saiwai Town). It is said to have been the first bell tower. The current bell tower was reconstructed the year after the Great Fire of Kawagoe in 1893 and has a three-story structure standing nearly 16 meters tall. It has been designated as a Cultural Property of Kawagoe City and chosen as one of 100 Soundscapes of Japan: Preserving Our Heritage.
