Shodoshima Ozaki Hosai Memorial Museum

This is a memorial museum, about five minutes by car from Tonosho Port. The museum displays many of the artifacts related to the Taisho period poet, Ozaki Hosai, from whom we have many free-verse haiku, penned during his itinerant life. This location is where he spent the last eight months of his life as the abbot of the Minan Goan, one of the Shodo Island sacred places. One can get a sense of his great achievements and worldview when visiting through the building, which is a replica of the Nangoan during his lifetime. Among the valuable donated artifacts on display are a few of his unpublished works donated by his teacher, Ogiwara Seisensui.

小豆島についてから記念館があることを知りました。土庄の迷路のまちのはずれにあります。尾崎放哉終焉の地ということで、感慨深かったです。今の記念館は、台風で元の建屋が全壊したあと、忠実に復原した建屋ということで、当時のものではないのですが、この建屋で放哉が暮らして、俳句に没頭していたという思いを馳せることができると思います。展示物が放哉自身のもの以上に、放哉関連のものがおおくて、そのあたりが整...

家の中には入りませんでしたが、庭に俳句と説明がありました。庭は手入れがされており、見学ができるようになっています。小豆島から東大に行かれたようですので、地元では有名な、優秀人材であったのかなと思いました。

大正時代の俳人で、東大法学部卒で保険会社に勤務したという超エリートです。なのに放浪生活に入ったという変わり種です。その後８か月で自由律俳句２００句以上を作りました。彼が晩年を過ごした家で、雰囲気のいい日本建築です。必見の建築物です。
