Joge White Plaster Townscape

Reference/Local/Exhibition/Literature Museum
This area in Fuchu City, Hiroshima Prefecture prospered during the Edo period both as land under the direct control of the shogunate government and as a post station town which served as a center for trade in the Chugoku region. The entire area is filled with traditional old storehouses and townhomes covered with white plaster and namako walls and fitted with lattice doors. Many of these buildings are still used as shops and homes to this day, and visitors rave that here you can enjoy atmospheric scenery which is still heavily colored by the area’s past as a wealthy trade and financial district. Joge Christian Church serves as a symbol of the area and has even been included in a list of 100 Best Cultural Sites in Hiroshima Prefecture.

Review
